This spectacular ornament, almost two feet tall, is reminiscent of the style of homemade paper ornaments made by Victorian families over 100 years ago. Dennis sent me this very large antique scrap bust of a young girl to me to transform into an old-fashioned paper-doll style ornament, for a bold statement on his stately Christmas tree this year. I selected a circa 1920s Dennison crepe paper in matching red and ran antique silk fringe down one side of the folds of her dress. I hemmed her skirt with black antique bead-work, antique silver lace, and vintage tinsel garland. I then tucked in a bottom ruffle made with antique silk ribbon to match the rippling dark shadows in her fur-lined shawl. After several attempts to add more decorations, I realized the only thing she needed to be perfect was to add a vintage fabric rose and ¾” wide shirred antique silk ribbon.
Lovingly handcrafted and signed by Gail Giaimo.
